Dr Neil Gordon

Dr Neil Gordon currently serves as acting Chief Human and Decision Sciences within DSTG.

The Division undertakes scientifically based analysis to enable robust evidence-based decision making by Defence and elements of National Security. The Division also conducts rigorous research into human cognition and behaviour, human performance and social science to enhance ADF capability.

Dr Gordon has a PhD from Imperial College, University of London and over 30 years of experience as a Defence research scientist. Initially he was in the UK with DERA where he worked on missile guidance and statistical signal processing for surveillance sensor systems.

Since 2002 he has been with DSTG working on Data and Information Fusion for wide area surveillance and recently, as Research Leader Intelligence Analytics, Dr Gordon was responsible for delivering innovative and effective science and technology to improve the situation awareness of intelligence analysts. Dr Gordon led the statistical data processing research for the search for MH370 coordinated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Dr Gordon was awarded the Ministers Award for Achievement in Defence Science in 2019. He is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society.
