The Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced (Defence) Science and Technology
DSTG has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Fulbright since 2011.
The Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced (Defence) Science and Technology aims to attract outstanding (United States) U.S. researchers to work in Australia in priority areas of research for Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) that will lead to ongoing collaborative partnerships between Australia and the U.S. and develop skills and capabilities in emerging fields of science and technology.
The intended outcome of the program is to promote educational and cultural exchange between Australia and the U.S. to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen relations between the two countries.
Fulbright Distinguished Chairs are appointed to DSTG and can be based at any DSTG site Australia-wide. The Chair works on a specific research project, engaging with DSTG personnel through occasional guest lectures and/or seminars. They also explore long-term collaborations and institutional linkages. The project must meet Fulbright program objectives of fostering mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchange and supporting the bilateral relationship.
The scholarship is dedicated to bringing U.S. experts to Australia for up to six months at a time, working with DSTG offices, research groups and partners, to contribute to DSTG’s key research areas. While DSTG will consider any relevant research proposal, the following areas are key contributors to future DSTG technology research:
- Hypersonics
- Directed Energy
- Trusted Autonomy
- Quantum Technology
- Information Warfare
- Long-Range Fires
