Defence Supercomputing - reducing sovereign risk whilst exploring the art of the possible!

The Defence Supercomputing Capability provides Australia with a sovereign capability that allows us to pursue activities in our national interest and provides a strong foundation for close collaboration with our allies, defence industry and academia.

The capability provides a, secure, multi-tenanted computational and data science collaboration ecosystem that partners with you to reduce infrastructure and security complexity to accelerate your research and enable world leading research and capability outcomes.

The Defence Supercomputing Capability boasts world-leading capabilities such as:

  • Large scale computational infrastructure for advanced modelling and simulation, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and quantum emulation.
  • Tailored services to optimise code and workflows to meet your provenance and security needs and ensure that your results are reproducible.
  • Security controls that meet US and allied export controls.
  • Meeting the security and data management controls required by USA International Trade in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreements.
  • Compatibility with US defence systems and specialist supercomputing codes.

The Defence Supercomputing Capability is managed on behalf of the Department by the Defence Science and Technology Group.

Reducing Complexity  |  Accelerating Innovation Science and Technology Outcomes  |  Enabling Asymmetric Capabilities

  • Complimentary access to world-class computational science for defence industry and academia delivering Defence outcomes.
  • Accelerated, lower-cost modelling, simulation, data processing, AI and deep learning to solve complex problems, reduce risk and improve analysis and insight.
  • Flexible, scalable CPU and GPU power to handle operational complexity and increased data availability.
  • Model and simulate weapon systems early in the capability life cycle rather than using, modifying or destroying valuable Australian Defence Force (ADF) assets in field experiments earlier than necessary.
  • Model real world activities to solve operational challenges and improve ADF safety.
  • Improved whole-of-life return on investment for military assets through strengthened design and operational decision making.
