Defence has been recognised for its commitment to gender equity, receiving the Athena SWAN Institutional Bronze award.

The Athena SWAN awards are an initiative under the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) program, a nation-wide equity and diversity evaluation and accreditation program which aims to promote equity and diversity in STEM.

The Bronze award recognises Defence's commitment to advancing the careers of women, not only in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics but across all the groups and services.

The Executive Director of SAGE, Dr Wafa El-Adhami congratulated the winners.

"This is testament to the leadership and commitment of the member institutions. The Bronze Award recognises an institution's work to set solid foundations for their journey to transformative change and set them on the course to Silver and Gold awards," she said.

Minister for Defence, Linda Reynolds congratulated DST and Defence more broadly, saying that the award "demonstrates the priority and value Defence places on gender and talent diversity in STEM disciplines, and our commitment to ensuring that this is what drives us as we continue to grow our impressive STEM workforce.” Read more in her media release.
