Defence scientists have developed electronics kits that can be used to detect uncrewed aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones.

The portable systems – called Windtalkers – are the result of an engineering partnership between Defence Science and Technology Group and the Royal Australian Air Force that has been established at the Edinburgh Defence Precinct in Adelaide.

With the use of low-cost drones becoming more widespread, Air Force’s Air Warfare Centre intends to test the kit’s ability to provide a real-time picture of the airspace around military assets.
