National Intelligence and Security Discovery Research Grants program

The National Intelligence and Security Discovery Research Grants (NISDRG) program supports excellent research that deepens understanding of emerging science and technology to address intelligence and national security interests.

The grants will enable Australia’s national intelligence and security communities to engage with Australia’s academic and research community to provide research that aligns with the priority research areas identified by the Australian Government. These are outlined in the Intelligence Challenges, and the National Security Challenges developed under the broad National Security Science and Technology Priorities.

The NISDRG program will be administered by the Australian Research Council on behalf of the Office of National Intelligence and the Department of Defence National Security Science and Technology Centre (NSSTC).

Applications to the program will be accepted once a year, with an annual grant opportunity each year from 2020 to 2022.

It is anticipated that up to 12 research grants will be funded annually under the NISDRG, totalling $18million. Grants will be between $400,000 and $600,000 per grant, for a period of up to three years.
