With over half of the world's population concentrated in cities and mega-cities, the Australian Defence Force must be prepared for combat in dense urban environments.

Technology which reduces unknowns during planning and improves situational awareness during an operation will provide a significant capability enhancement. 

DST has partnered with the Adelaide-based company Myriota to develop a military-focused Internet of Things data terminal with direct-to-orbit communication capability. The terminals are small, light and can operate for multiple years on two AA batteries, making them ideally suited for distribution across an urban battlefield.
