Professor Michelle Gee

Professor Michelle Gee is the Chief Technology Officer Innovation and Strategic Research in the Defence Science and Technology Group.

As Chief Technology Officer, Innovation and Strategic Research, Professor Michelle Gee is responsible for leading DSTG’s contribution to Defence’s innovation programs, including governance of the Next Generation Technologies program.

Providing contribution to the development of government programs and policy, the role is also responsible for the leadership and development of an integrated strategic technology development program to build Defence capability.

With 25 years’ experience in translational research and development leadership, innovation and commercialisation, including portfolios across higher education, industry and manufacturing, Michelle joined Defence in 2022.

Most recently the Founding Director of the Sir Lawrence Wackett Defence and Aerospace Research Centre and as Professor of Aerospace Engineering at RMIT University, Michelle has led the formation of trans-disciplinary research consortia supporting defence and aerospace capability development.

With a passion for supporting the growth of the technology sector and its talent pipeline, Michelle was previously head liaison and strategist for external research partnerships at Boeing. She is highly cited for her research and development and holds several patents, inventions, awards and distinctions.
