Hypersonic flight

Through our HiFIRE collaboration, we have an active program to develop hypersonics for sustained high-speed flight.

Strategic research

DSTG undertakes strategic research in key science and technology areas which are likely to provide a game-changing capability for future Defence; and to prepare DSTG to meet future science and technology challenges.

It is critical to invest in strategic research in select technology areas to deal with the challenges of the future that can potentially provide disruptive capabilities for Australia.

Protective clothing

In the early 1970s, Australia’s defence scientists developed the original ‘rabbit ears’ Australian Army Disruptive Pattern camouflage to match the Australian terrain.
