In this report a 3-D mathematical model for multi-party engagement kinematics is derived suitable for developing, implementing and testing modern missile guidance systems.
Scientific publications
Our scientific and technical publications are an important vehicle for the dissemination of our work.
We have several goals for our publications:
- To communicate the results of the research program to clients and fulfil our reporting responsibilities to the Department of Defence.
- To record the results of our research program.
- To communicate the results of scientific research and technical information to Australian industry and academia.
- To increase awareness of and enhance the reputation of DSTG.

Technical report
This report describes the motivation, scope and outcomes of a recent DSTO research collaboration with industry, intended to develop a specialised computer-based text analysis capability.
Technical note
Results reported here relate to changes over time of physical, visual and sensory measures, providing guidance as to the anticipated shelf life of each component and the ability of products to meet the warranty requirement that components remain suitable for use following up to 24 months storage at 30 °C. Recommendations to ensure such compliance are made..
General document
This literature review examines research on mental models and linear separability published between 2000 and 2012.
General document
This document provides a snapshot of possible directions for Centre for Food Innovation (CFI) research.
Technical report
This report discusses the Air Operations Division contribution to the Net Warrior demonstration event NW-D10. NW-D10 was held in September 2010 and demonstrated information interoperability of middleware technologies in dynamic environments with real mission systems. An overview of the NW-D10 event is provided along with a discussion of the technologies demonstrated. The outcomes of NW-D10 are presented and future Net Warrior events and enabling research are outlined.
Technical report
The Velocity Interferometer System for Any Reflector (VISAR) is a system for recording the shock response of condensed materials. This reports on preliminary tests using the recently commissioned DSTO VISAR system, providing an assessment of the experimental set-up and accuracy of the system installation.
Technical note
The Australian Large Scale Gap Test (LSGT) required a new donor. The performance evaluation demonstrated that the AES donor provided a consistent velocity of detonation and detonation pressure, which is critical for LSGT.
Research report
Development of a Monte Carlo model of the fatigue life of corroded specimens of aluminium alloy 7010-T7651. The model simulates both the alloy’s metallurgical inclusions and corrosion pits using extreme value statistical distributions.
Technical report
The control-theoretic Ordered Upwind Methods (OUM) has been employed to solve a number of simple path planning problems.
