DSTO, in collaboration with DNPS, have undertaken a series of calm water resistance scaled model tests on the Armidale Class Patrol Boat, (ACPB) to deveop a database set for validation studies.
Scientific publications
Our scientific and technical publications are an important vehicle for the dissemination of our work.
We have several goals for our publications:
- To communicate the results of the research program to clients and fulfil our reporting responsibilities to the Department of Defence.
- To record the results of our research program.
- To communicate the results of scientific research and technical information to Australian industry and academia.
- To increase awareness of and enhance the reputation of DSTG.

General document
This review provides an overview of the technologies and issues relevant to future dismounted soldier power systems.
Technical report
This report describes the development of a Thermal Wave Interferometry (TWI) system for the characterisation of film thickness. The capability addresses the need for a method to assess bondline uniformity for the compact multi-parameter load evaluation (CMPLE ) device, a low-cost surface-mounted sensor package with an in-flight strain measurement capability.
Technical report
DSTO has designed a modular, scalable, flexible, and robust spoken natural language (SNL) -aware system. It is designed to be increasingly sophisticated and responsive to users, and adaptable to relevant developments in language technologies and software development.
Technical report
This report describes the development of a Thermal Wave Interferometry (TWI) system for the characterisation of film thickness. The system was shown to resolve variations in paint thickness of less than 1.5 μm
Technical report
The purpose of this document is to review existing scientific literature and established work physiology models for the development of evidence-based load carriage guidelines. This guide is then distilled into an overview of key considerations for the management (i.e. preparation, execution and recovery) of personnel undertaking repeated load carriage tasks.
Technical report
This report covers an experiment into the usability of a Battle Management System (BMS) under different levels of simulated vehicular motion in order to perform key command and control (C2) tasks.
Technical report
The purpose of this project was to enhance DSTO's capability in understanding and modelling the thermodynamic and performance characteristics of gas turbine engines. An engine performance modelling tool was developed and validated and different tools and techniques were evaluated. Infrared suppression related studies were also conducted
Technical report
The paper identifies research challenges in addressing data integrity and, critically, proposes a new model that captures and supports a broader range of integrity dimensions and briefly discusses a use case for the model involving an actual implementation of a security device (Secure Information ATM or SIATM).
Technical report
The development of a Proton quantitative Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (qHNMR) Spectroscopy method for determining the purity of chemical warfare agents (CWAs) using homogeneous internal standards.
