Simulation Trial Results for the Cooperative Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Demonstration (SA15)

A simulation trial was conducted to test the connectivity between the two heterogeneous software systems that were part of a cooperative Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Demonstration being undertaken by the Australian and Singaporean defence science agencies.

Vector and Matrix Variable Definitions in DAVE-ML

The Dynamic Aerospace Vehicle Exchange Markup Language (DAVE-ML) is a syntactical language for exchanging flight vehicle dynamic model data. This report documents a DAVE-ML consistent syntax for managing data as vectors and n-dimensional matrices, including syntax for computing vectors and matrices using equations, and examples of encoding data using the syntax.

A Comparison of Civil and Military, European and United States Regulations and Standards for the Certification of Helicopter Structure

This report details a comparison of a range of civil and military, United States and European regulations and structural certification standards for the fatigue substantiation of rotary wing aircraft structure.

Determination of Benzalkonium Chloride in Commercial Disinfectant Formulations by Quantitative NMR Spectroscopy

A biofouling treatment protocol for Royal Australian Navy vessels involves dosing with commercial disinfectant solutions containing the biocide benzalkonium chloride (BAC). In this work a single pulse proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopic method was developed in order to permit the determination of BAC content in commercial formulations without suppression of the water resonance.

Challenges and Opportunities in Information Security

The biennial Infosec Challenges report provides information to the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) on a range of current and emerging areas in information security. In our 2012 report, areas have been selected to reflect potential information security interests across a broad range of ICT scenarios in the Australian Government. In each of these areas, we consider the current state-of-the-art, in research and/or practice, and identify existing challenges and opportunities.

A Review of the Soldier's Equipment Burden

The report contains a description of the factors contributing to the issue of excessive soldier load. It provides project management strategies and the change in the nature of operations, and ends with descriptions of six groups of solutions arisen from examining the factors that make up the 'soldier equipment burden': load weight, equipment placement, and carriage duration.

Assessment of Governor Control Parameter Settings of a Submarine Diesel Engine

This paper develops a low order engine model which is then used to investigate the performance benefits that can be obtained through proper tuning of the governor control parameters.

Proceedings of the 2012 Model-Based Systems Engineering Symposium, 27 - 28 November 2012, DSTO Edinburgh, South Australia

The 2012 MBSE Symposium explored the innovative application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to Concept Engineering, the application of systems engineering principles, processes, methods, techniques and tools to the identification and analysis of the needs of capability users and other stakeholders.
